Kristoffer Eliassen’s images are the result of a process that combines artificial intelligence, digital image processing and photography.

Each image starts with a photograph of the artist himself, which is then transformed through AI-generated motifs and manual editing in digital imaging software. This fusion of technology and human creativity creates portraits that are both recognizable and alienated, challenging the viewer’s perception of identity and reality.

Eliassen has previously explored the role of the self-portrait in the digital age. In his earlier award winning project, Selfphone, he explored the performative nature of selfies, highlighting how the act of self-photography can lead to both self-regulation and self-disclosure. By placing himself both behind and in front of the camera, he examined how self-portraiture can become an obsession, leading to peculiar and sometimes absurd situations.

This approach continues in his current work, where he uses AI and digital editing to delve deeper into themes of identity and perception.

By integrating artificial intelligence into his creative process, Eliassen challenges the viewer to question the authenticity of images and the very nature of self-representation in the digital age. The result is not just images, but visual narratives that invite reflection on the complexities of identity, technology, and art.
